Living on Avenida Balboa: Waterfront Towers by the Cinta Costera
Bella Vista district (corregimiento), Panama City. This guide covers the strip between Calle 50 (Av. Nicanor de Obarrio) and the sea: Avenida Balboa, the Cinta Costera, Marbella, La Cresta and traditional Bella Vista around Parque Urracá. Practical limits: Calle 50 and Vía España to the north (Obarrio, the banking district, Campo Alegre and El Cangrejo, in the same district, are not included), the Matasnillo river and Punta Paitilla to the east, Panama Bay to the south and Calles 38 to 40 Este and Hospital Santo Tomás to the west. The official boundary with Calidonia is Calle 42, but the towers on the avenue between Calles 38 and 42 are marketed as Avenida Balboa or Bella Vista and are included too.
What is it like to live in Avenida Balboa?
Avenida Balboa is Panama City's grand waterfront avenue: a row of 25- to 70-story residential towers between Calle 50 and Panama Bay, in the Bella Vista district, with the Cinta Costera —the city's seafront promenade— right in front.
It is the area most chosen by professionals and expats who want to live downtown: the banking district, Calle 50, the Casco Antiguo and the Corredor Sur are minutes away, supermarkets, hospitals and restaurants are within walking distance, and almost every tower has a pool, gym and 24-hour security.
Housing is almost all apartments in sea-view towers (Yoo, Waters on the Bay, Grand Bay, Rivage, Destiny, Costanera), plus buildings on the Bella Vista and Marbella side with city views, and several new projects of small apartments aimed at renters.

- The Cinta Costera right in front: a seafront promenade for walking, running or cycling.

- Minutes from the banking district, Calle 50, the Casco Antiguo and the Corredor Sur.

Things to know
- Heavy rush-hour traffic on Avenida Balboa, Federico Boyd and Calle 50.
- Pricier than inner Bella Vista, El Dorado or Condado del Rey: 2-bedrooms from ~$1,200 a month in towers with a view.
- Few schools within walking distance.
- Noise from the avenue and from the Calle Uruguay nightlife on some blocks.

Getting around Avenida Balboa
- Buses: route C640 (Albrook–Cinta Costera–Panamá Viejo) and S420 (Corredor Sur–Albrook) run along Avenida Balboa, stopping at Parque Urracá, Aquilino de la Guardia and Paitilla; routes V180, V201 and V531 (Vía España) and C641 and C941 run along Calle 50 (routes per OpenStreetMap). Fares are paid with the Metro card.
- Metro: the closest stations are Iglesia del Carmen (~0.7 km from the center of the area), Vía Argentina (~1.2 km) and Santo Tomás (~1.3 km, the closest to the west side), all on Line 1. Fare B/. 0.35.
- Car: Avenida Balboa connects west to Cinta Costera 3 and the Casco Antiguo and east to Punta Paitilla and the Corredor Sur entrance (towards Tocumen airport); Avenida Federico Boyd and Calle Aquilino de la Guardia lead up to Calle 50 and the banking district. Rush-hour traffic is heavy.
