What is it like to live in Albrook?

Albrook is the former US Albrook Air Force Station, in the reverted areas of the Ancón district, west of downtown Panama City. Today it has two sides: along the Corredor Norte sit Albrook Mall, the national bus terminal, the Metro Line 1 terminus and Marcos A. Gelabert airport; behind them, up the hill, is a quiet residential neighborhood of tree-lined streets, former Canal Zone houses and low-rise buildings.

It is one of the few green areas where you can live without a car: the Metro, intercity buses and the country's biggest shopping center are ~1 km from the residential center. That is why professionals, couples and families who want nature (the Metropolitan Natural Park and Ancón Hill are next door) look here, at lower prices than Clayton.

Housing mixes apartments in buildings such as Albrook Point, Albrook Park, Pine Hills and the new Forest Gate, gated communities such as Albrook Gardens and Ville di Firenze, and large houses from the base era. Some portals list Embassy Club and Embassy Village, on the Clayton border, under "Albrook".

Pros

  • Metro, bus terminal and domestic airport ~1 km away: you can live without a car.
  • A green, quiet neighborhood between the Metropolitan Natural Park and Ancón Hill.
  • Albrook Mall, supermarkets, gyms and banks a few minutes away.
  • Rents and prices below Clayton and the downtown high-rise districts.
  • Schools in the neighborhood and the Clayton international schools a few minutes away.

Things to know

  • Heavy traffic at the Corredor Norte exits and around Albrook Mall, especially on weekends and paydays.
  • Streets closest to the airport live alongside its domestic flight operations.
  • No hospital inside the area; the nearest are ~2 km away.
  • Small inventory: few buildings and houses, with many listings concentrated in a handful of buildings.
